It’s inevitable and sometimes it happens – the cover just doesn’t match the book’s content or intensity. The one set of covers that irks me the most is for the science fiction trilogy – the Sky Chasers.
the Sky Chasers trilogy by Amy Kathleen Ryan
Synopsis // Out in the murky nebula lurks an unseen enemy: the New Horizon. On its way to populate a distant planet in the wake of Earth’s collapse, the ship’s crew has been unable to conceive a generation to continue its mission. They need young girls desperately, or their zealous leader’s efforts will fail. Onboard their sister ship, the Empyrean, the unsuspecting families don’t know an attack is being mounted that could claim the most important among them…
Sky Chasers had a cover redesign after book two and these are the covers that are widely available. However, I don’t think these covers do the series justice AT ALL. First off, Glow and Spark look like a model shoots from America’s Next Top Model. I’m just downright confused by Flame.
Instead, it would be cool to see spaceships and nebula, supernovas. Something spacelike. These covers don’t make it look like the series takes place on a spaceship. Honestly, if I was a new reader taking a look at this series, I think I’d pass over it.
Have you come across a book or series that you think deserve a cover redesign?
