End of Days // Should’ve Read This Long Ago

Title: End of Days (Penryn and the End of Days #3)

Author: Susan Ee

Pub: May 2015

Genre: Paranormal, Apocalyptic

Penryn and Raffe have escaped the angels, but on the run they must find people to trust to aid Penryn’s sister and help Raffe with his wings. The apocalyptic nightmare the angels have released is entering a violent and tumultuous climax. Penryn and Co. are determined to go down swinging.

I totally planned on reading this book upon it’s publication, and I’m sure if I had, I would have liked it more.

Not that End of Days is a poor conclusion. On the contrary, it’s action-packed, with angsty scenes between Penryn and Raffe, but it didn’t feel as thrilling as book one or two.

Even though it’s been almost two years since I’ve read the other books, Penryn is still an interesting character. She’s determined, and yet still vulnerable and scared (which is a given when the apocalypse is upon you).

It’s action-packed, but the final battle sequence was kind of boring, despite all the action. The angsty scenes between Penryn and Raffee felt forced, but this might be because it’s been so long since I’ve read the first two installments.

I did like the that ending/epilogue showed the world still in shambles. It’s not gonna bounce back after getting trounced by biblical angels.

Also, I can’t get over how Raffe’s nickname is pronounced “Raw-Fee”, what in the world? Anyway, End of Days was a swing and a miss for me. I should have read this book ages ago and I probably would have liked it more (now I’ll berate myself till the end of time).
